Demokwekerij Westland is the leading innovation centre in greenhouse horticulture technology. The Demokwekerij (Demonursery) was established in 2001, with a glasshouse area of just 5000 square metres. Nowadays, the Demokwekerij has vastly expanded their activities over the past years.

The current main objective of Demokwekerij, is to stimulate and facilitate innovative developments and changes in glasshouse horticulture.

• More than 25 participating companies have their own space in the Demokwekerij
  
• More than 27 research compartments are available for research and small-scale testing in collaboration with Agricultural Research Centre Zwaagdijk, for example a LED (light-emitting diode) test is taken now.
  
• 8 research compartments available in collaboration with TNO Fieldlab Glasshouse Horticulture
  
• Closely connected to practice, frequently consultations with several growers groups
  
• Front office for Greenport Campus Innovation Support, where growers are

Demokwekerij Westland acts as a link and network between government, education and the business sector, so that developments and innovations can be made and elaborated by means of co-operation. This has resulted in the start-up of several projects focused on practice-based innovation, for example:

• Greenport Campus Innovation Support, to which companies can address questions of all kinds, relating to their business operations.
  
• The growers\' association TTO (Tuinbouw Techniek Ontwikkeling: Horticulture Technology Development), in which growers work together on practice-based innovation.
  

Demokwekerij Westland is well-known across the globe, as over the past 9 years, it has experienced 36,000 visitors from over 40 countries worldwide.
